Caltrans Working on Wrong Way Prevention Upgrades on I 5

Over the next few months, Caltrans will be working on some I-5 ramps in San Diego in an effort to deter wrong-way drivers. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the project is being conducted on various I-5 ramps across San Diego County. Crews will be working on Thursday nights through Saturday mornings.

There will be closures at certain areas while work crews are present. Crews will be removing and replacing pavement delineation. Additionally, they will be installing specialized reflectors and new striping. In the 2016 pilot program for these upgrades, the special reflectors led to a 64 percent decrease in wrong-way driving. These reflectors actually flash red when drivers enter the roadway from the wrong direction.
