Over the weekend, there was a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 8 in El Cajon. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the wreck happened on the westbound side of the roadway, near the El Cajon Valley High School, at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. For currently unknown reasons, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado veered off the roadway and hit a guardrail wall. The truck then went across the center median, hit a barrier and caused concrete chunks to hit several vehicles. Finally, the pickup truck crashed onto a sidewalk and became engulfed in flames.

Sadly, the driver did not survive the crash. A 17-month-old toddler was in one of the vehicles that was struck by a piece of concrete. That child was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries. This wreck is likely still under investigation.
