Earlier this week, a military police officer was injured in a motorcycle crash on Camp Pendleton. According to ABC San Diego News Channel 10, the incident happened on Monday morning. Initial reports indicate that Military Police Officer Nicholas Merced was on his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle that was making a turn and didn’t see him.  

First responders rushed to the scene, where 39-year-old Merced had to be airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of injuries. He has had several surgeries and sustained an open pelvic fracture, fractures to his back, arm, knee and feet. Additionally, he suffered from complications of his injuries including blood clots in his lungs, a heart attack, renal failure and sepsis. The father of six was also placed in a medically-induced coma. This crash is likely still under investigation with law enforcement officials.
