NHTSA’s 2022 Speeding Prevention Campaign

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is gearing up for their 2022 speed prevention campaign. This year’s campaign kicks off on July 20th and runs until August 14th. They’re approaching the speeding crisis with a two-pronged approach in 2022.

First, they’re running a brand new campaign called Speeding Wrecks Lives. This campaign is all about the dangers of speeding and how it impacts the driver, vehicle passengers and even pedestrians. The NHTSA will also be publicizing their traditional Obey The Sign or Pay The Fine campaign which focuses on the financial consequences of speeding tickets.

Speeding Wrecks Lives

Speeding is one of those issues that can be a slippery slope for drivers in a hurry. It may be tempting to go just a few miles over the speed limit if you’re running late, but it’s never a good idea. Even though speeding can feel like a benign traffic violation that gets you to your destination quickly, it can actually be very dangerous.

Speed limits are posted for a reason. According to the NHTSA, there were 11,285 people killed in speeding-related crashes in the U.S. in 2020. That accounted for 29 percent of all crash fatalities for the year. Don’t be tempted to speed, even if you’re running late, and even if it’s just a few miles per hour over the limit. It’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others.

Obey The Sign or Pay The Fine

The Obey The Sign or Pay The Fine campaign raises awareness about the financial consequences of speeding. If you’re caught speeding, you could get pulled over and get a ticket. Depending upon how fast you were driving, how much further over the limit you were clocked at and what type of area you were driving in, you could be facing several hundred dollars in fines.

Motorists in California can expect law enforcement officers to be out in full force this summer. State and local departments across the nation will likely be engaging in enhanced enforcement efforts during the nationwide campaign as well.
