NHTSA’s 2022 U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is gearing up for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Throughout the Month of April, the NHTSA, as well as public safety and law enforcement agencies throughout the country, will be raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. There will be a national high visibility enforcement mobilization running from April 4-11, 2022 too.

This year, safety advocates are calling on drivers to put their phones away or pay. In 48 states, including California, texting while driving is an illegal and ticketable offense. If you are texting while driving, not only are you putting yourself at risk for a ticket and a fine, you’re also jeopardizing your safety and the safety of those around you.

  • In 2019, the number of deaths linked to driver distraction was 3,142.
  • That accounted for almost nine percent of all traffic crash fatalities.
  • This also represents a 10 percent increase over the year 2018, or 284 more deaths.
  • In 2019, distracted-driving crashes accounted for 15 percent of injury crashes and 14 percent of all police-reported motor vehicle crashes.

Distracted Driving Accidents in San Diego

After any kind of car accident involving a distracted driver or a suspected distracted driver, it’s a good idea to speak with a Personal Injury lawyer about your case. You may be entitled to compensation to cover medical bills, lost wages and other expenses associated with your injuries. Sometimes, it can take additional investigative measures to find out if a driver was distracted at the time of a crash, so a lawyer can stay abreast of any investigation details and fight to get you the compensation you deserve after an injury accident.
