NHTSA’s Consumer Advisory Campaign About Safety Technologies

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued a Consumer Advisory about their upcoming media campaign that aims to educate vehicle owners about the latest and greatest safety technologies. According to the NHTSA, they are launching a yearlong $1.25 million digital paid media campaign that is going to help drivers learn about the safety benefits of advanced driver-assistance technologies in new vehicles.

Data shows that many drivers just aren’t aware of the benefits of these technological safety advances or how they work. The campaign will work to increase working knowledge of the latest advances in automotive safety technology and help to reduce injury causing and potentially fatal crashes across the nation.

Highlighting Advanced Driver-Assistance Technologies

The first part of the campaign is going to be all about increasing awareness and knowledge about the latest advancements in driver-assistance technologies. The technologies included in the educational campaign are blind spot intervention, rear automatic braking, lane-keeping assistance and automatic high beams.

In addition to the paid digital campaign, the NHTSA also has an updated webpage dedicated to improving public understanding of various automated driving systems. The website has a variety of learning tools including an interactive infographic to offer a user-friendly way to learn more about the various levels of automation coming out in new vehicles.

Learning About The Latest in Automotive Safety Technology

Even if you’re not currently shopping for a new car, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the latest advances in automotive safety technology. It’s important to know what kind of technology vehicles are equipped with, so you know more about the kinds of cars that you’re sharing the road with. Pedestrians and cyclists are also being impacted by these technological advances, so the NHTSA sees this campaign as a really important opportunity to get the word out about how these new types of tech impact safety for all roadway users.
