Speeding Driver Kills San Diego Police Officer, Critically Injures Another
On Monday night, two people were killed following a police pursuit in San Diego, just west of Interstate 805. The crash took place around 11:30 pm in the 5200 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard area, according to FOX 5 San Diego. A police officer initially witnessed a BMW sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to perform a traffic stop. The driver instead took off, resulting in a brief pursuit that was ultimately called off due to dangerous speeds. While traveling eastbound down Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, the BMW struck a northbound San Diego Police Department patrol vehicle within the Doliva Drive intersection.
One of the officers inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second officer sustained critical injuries. The BMW driver died at the hospital. Two other vehicles were also involved, but did not suffer any significant injuries, reported NBC News.
